Feb 28, Why Knowing about Grades of Oils is Important

Something that was not clear to me at first is that there is a BIG difference between the types of Essential Oils. For all I knew, oils were oils, and even though I knew about lavender scented products in my grocery store - I had no idea about the possibilities of supporting my health, naturally, with Essential Oils.

There are 4 Grades of Essential Oils:

    * Grade A oils are pure therapeutic quality and are usually made from organically grown plants distilled at the proper temperatures using steam distillation.

    * Grade B oils are food grade; they may contain synthetics, pesticides, fertilizers, extenders, or carrier oils.

    * Grade C oils are perfume grade and may contain the same type of adulterating chemicals as food grade oils. They usually contain solvents which are used to gain a higher yield of oil per harvest. Solvents are normally cancerous.

    * Floral Water is a byproduct of the distillation process, a very high quality if it comes from a Grade A distillation process. Accordingly it is of low quality if it comes from poor quality raw materials and or poor distillation processes. It is usually found in skin and hair products.

I recommend Young Living Essentials Oils because they insure you get pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils in every order. Each batch, whether produced or imported, is subjected to a rigorous testing process and double checked by outside laboratories. If the oils do not meet standards, they are returned or destroyed on the spot. That means that care has been given to every single drop, to ensure that the medicinal properties have been retained.

Don't be fooled by the odor of adulterated oils and then deny yourself the therapeutical power of God's medicine chest.

Want to experience the energy of therapeutic essential oils?

Nov 8, Aqua Dots Recall

Aqua Dots toys, were recalled by world wide retailers because the coating has a chemical that causes a comatose akin to a "date rape drug. Aqua Dots are a heavily promoted product on TV that promises creativity with little mess. Aqua Dots Super StudioAqua Dots are fun, colorful beads that magically join in water. Aqua Dots are a Chinese made art toy that allows you to arrange color beads and fuse them together with water. Aqua Dots is also sold at retailers including Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Drug

Aqua Dots are toxic and contain a level of alcohol in the coating that can shut the respiratory system. The beads contained an adhesive solvent called "1,4 butylene glycol," which can simulate the so-called date-rape drug gamma hydroxy butyrate(GHB) when ingested, causing seizures, coma or death. The toy hasn't been linked to any deaths.

Ghb

GHB is a naturally occuring chemical in everyone. Once ingested, the toy beads, sold in North America under the brand Aqua Dots, released a chemical related to GHB, the 'date rape' drug. " As drugs go, GHB is about as "clean" as you can get. The children became sick because, apparently, the beads metabolize in their system into gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), a drug commonly known as "Liquid Ecstacy".

The bottom line is, there were more ingredients than just the butylene glycol in the Aqua Dots that shouldn't have been there.

I started using Lavender oil as my deodorant 3 months ago. I only rubbed in a couple of drops for each arm pit. I got a rash with itching and oozing a few days later. At first I thought I was allergic to the lavender oil, but ruled that out since I use it on cuts and burns without a problem. I came to the conclusion that the Lavender was pulling the toxins out of my lymph nodes under my arm pits. I continued to use the Lavender daily and eventually the rash and itching went away. I still use it daily and have not had anymore problems with the rash and itching.

Title: What I did for a wasp sting
Author: Debra Bradford
Link: http://www.oil-testimonials.com/essential-oils/2280

The other day I was going outside to my cousins back yard through the sliding glass
door. I stepped out and this wasp (at the time I didn't know what it was) swooped
down & stung me under my eye, as I was swinging at it trying to get it away
from my face.

As I walked to what I needed to do it hurt & my eye started to water & the
swelling started. On my way back in I looked above where the door was & saw
a wasps nest that was 3' by 2''s. Then I knew I was stung by a wasp.
I went to the mirror & my eye still watering & below it was swelling.

I went to my van & got my desk reference pocket books, looked up about stings.
Since I only had a first aid kit with the oils in it with me I looked what I had.
Between the 2 books it said I could use Lavender for the sting or pain & Purification
for the swelling or to take out the poison. After taking the stinger out I put 1 drop of lavender on & instantly felt it starting to work, the pain subsiding.
Then followed that with 1 drop of Purification. Within 1/2 hr there was no swelling, no sting & a red dot smaller than the size of a pin head where I had been stung. I only used those 2 drops & was fine. With these kind of results who could go wrong using the oils!

Jul 5, Ants Stopped Visiting her Kitchen

Ronda Jennings submitted the following tip:

Every year in the spring or summer, I wake up one morning to a kitchen counter full of ants. Last year, I mixed peppermint essential oil with water and sprayed around all of my windows, and for the first time in seven years, I was not invaded with ants.

Note and tip: I have personally used Peppermint mixed with water in one of those one-dollar plastic sprayers.

In most cases the ants will persist for a while but eventually (2-7 days) will not come back. So don't give up.

Feb 7, Have You Experienced the "perianal tingle"? - Peppermint and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects millions of Americans with painful abdominal cramps, bloating, gas and bouts of diarrhea and constipation. Eliminating dairy and caffeine often takes care of the problem but if not, I often put patients on Peppermint Oil and there is finally now solid evidence to support this centuries old practice.

The latest volume of the journal, Phytomedicine reviewed the evidence - 16 clinical studies, most of them double blind placebo-controlled crossover studies (one of the most scientifically rigorous study designs).

The majority of these studies showed a consistent and significant improvement in IBS symptoms compared to placebo. The recommended dosing for adults is 1-2 enteric-coated Peppermint Oil capsules three times a day for 2 to 4 weeks.

As always, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their physician before putting any new substance in their bodies.

The effect of the Peppermint Oil was so powerful that some of the studies even performed a head to head comparison between the Peppermint Oil and the current pharmaceutical drugs on the market and found comparable results. Of course the drugs in current use have side effects, including everything from dry mouth and blurred vision to confusion and memory impairment.

The most common side effect of the Peppermint Oil was well, let's just call it the "perianal tingle" as the minty freshness exits the body.
Aug 31, Oils in Inhalers...What a Great Idea for Travel

Hello!

I am not 100 sure about this but I feel like this may possibly be a solution to traveling with oils.

I don't know if you are aware that there are empty inhaler containers you can buy at Abundant Health. They look just like the "Vicks" inhalers. It comes with a cotton wick that you put your essential oils on and put back into the inhaler.

It is not a liquid in a container, or a lotion or gel.

This is what I most often use anyhow when I fly because it does not offend as many people as putting the oils on. It goes directly into the brain immediately and it also lasts for well up to 6 or 8 months just adding about 10-15 drops of oil. on to the wick.

My favorite combination which I use on most all of my bodywork clients for lungs and respiratory is Raven, Clove and Peppermint. It is a highly effective and delicious smelling combination.

I asked Gary when I was at the farm, why was I sooooo drawn to using this combination on so many of my clients and he told me it was great for lung detoxification.

You can order the inhalers at: www.abundant-health4u.com Click on plastic containers and scroll down toward the bottom. You can get 1/2 dozen for $5.95

I sell a lot of these to my clients ... they just love them!

I called my airline tonight that I am flying on Sunday and the man said he felt like this would pass as it is not a liquid or lotion etc.. The worse that can happen if they don't approve is you have to leave it and you will only lose a few drops of oils. These are great for long flights too!

I love solutions and not limitations! :) I learned this from Gary Young :)

Blessings and happy sniffing!!

Jun 9, Helouise Window Cleaner Recipe

Interesting use of essential oils in your favorite window cleaner:

"Dear Heloise: I saw you on television recently. You have a recipe for window cleaner that contained water, alcohol, vinegar and some essential oil. I've looked and cannot find the recipe. Can you please print it? -- Connie Taylor of Granite Shoals, Texas

Connie, this is an updated window cleaner, and it is so cheap to make and works just like expensive commercial products. Just mix 12-16 ounces of water, 1/2 cup white or apple-cider vinegar, 1/4 cup (70 percent) rubbing alcohol, 1-2 drops of blue or green food color (if desired) and 1-2 drops lavender or orange or your favorite essential oil. When cleaning windows, I use newspaper because it doesn't leave lint behind, you are recycling, and newspapers are almost free. Spray the newspaper first (not the window), then wipe down the window. If you wipe in one direction on one side, then the other direction on the other side, you can see which side has streaks. All this costs is a little elbow grease and a few cents. -- Heloise"

Mar 17, What Does Avian Bird Flu 7 Eleven and Sauerkraut Have in Common?

"the avian flu will be in the United States in a few months because of migrating birds"?

With the buzz going around the avian flu pandemic enveloping this planet, I had to write about this possible preventative.

This story started last November as scientists at Seoul National University in South Korea fed an extract of kimchi, a spicy Korean variant of sauerkraut, to 13 chickens infected with avian flu, and a week later, 11 of the birds started to recover, according to a report by the BBC Network.

Well guess what? Ryan Downs, owner and general manager of Great Lakes Kraut Co. made these claims: "we've got the preventative, and 115,000 tons of it in Wisconsin alone."

"People are starting to realize kraut is a pretty doggone good food," Downs said.

However, more extensive scientific research is needed to prove any curative link to avian flu, but Downs more than happy to tout kraut as a healthful part of any diet.

After a Minneapolis CBS affiliate did its own story on sauerkraut's potential in the battle against avian flu, Frank's checked 54 Twin City area stores it supplies, and found an 850 percent spike in overall sauerkraut sales, Lundin said.

Now the story gets better. Headlines in January started touting the benefits of sauerkraut as being a low carb food, and named sauerkraut as one of the hottest foods of 2006.

And lo and behold now Arby's has introduced a new Reuben sandwich as part of their new "market fresh sandwich" program and they use Frank's Sauerkraut, considered to be the highest quality sauerkraut in the United States.

A Georgetown University study (February 2006) was cited, in the latest issue of the British Journal of Cancer, and expands upon many other cancer studies by identifying and describing the cellular process which gives cruciferous foods, like cabbage and sauerkraut, a strong cancer-fighting response in the human body.

I started noticing that 7Eleven stores carry as part of their condiment arsenal, sauerkraut. And when combined with their big bite array of dogs it actually becomes a low carb alternative. According to Charles Stuart Platkin, a syndicated health, nutrition, and fitness columnist and author, the 7 Eleven Biggest Bite can be broken down to:

7 Eleven 1/3 Pound Big Biggest Bite (no bun): 480 calories, 45g fat, 3g carbs

"All I can say is pack on the sauerkraut -- it's your best bet. It has very few calories and no fat. Mustard, ketchup and relish are also great deals in terms of calories. Steer clear of butter and mayo, which have a habit of turning up on almost everything we eat. Also, try to avoid cheese and chili whenever possible; they can add more than 250 calories and 15g fat to your frank.

--- Sauerkraut (1 cup): 27 calories, 0g fat, 6g carbs

Now you know the connection between the avian flu, 7 Eleven and sauerkraut.

Have you noticed that there are no reported deaths of South Koreans?

Stay healthy,

A whole new line of products have developed from the blend of Thieves oil. I am always impressed by what you can do with this oil.

Dawn Cable submitted the following tip:

"One of my clients got gum inside the pocket of a school uniform shirt. I used Thieves Household Cleaner undiluted right on the shirt, and the gum simply melted off!*"

*Please test fabrics for color safety before applying essential oils.

Feb 7, Aromatherapy oils 'kill superbug'

Aromatherapy oils 'kill superbug'
-- Tuesday, 21 December, 2004, BBC

Essential oils could kill the deadly MRSA hospital 'superbug', scientists have claimed.

University of Manchester researchers found three of the oils, usually used in aromatherapy, destroyed MRSA and E.coli bacteria in two minutes.

They suggest the oils could be blended into soaps and shampoos which could be used in hospitals to stop the spread of the superbug. Hospital-acquired infections, such as MRSA, kill an estimated 5,000 a year in the UK.

The Manchester study was triggered when complementary medicine specialists at Christie Cancer Hospital asked university researchers to test essential oils.

Dr Peter Warn, who carried out the research, said: "When I tested the oils in the lab, absolutely nothing grew. Rather than stimulating bacteria and fungi, the oils killed them off." The essential oils tested were Patchouli, tea tree, geranium, lavender essential oils and Citricidal trade mark (grapefruit seed extract).

The team tested 40 essential oils against 10 of the most infectious agents found in hospitals, including MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus).

Two of the oils were found to kill MRSA and E.coli almost instantly, while a third was found to act over a longer period of time.

Dr Warn says the essential oils could be used to create much more pleasant inhalation therapies - which he said were likely to have a much higher success rate than the current treatment, which is only effective in around 50 of cases."

Dr Warn said: "We believe that our discovery could revolutionise the fight to combat MRSA and other superbugs."

But he said the team now needed around 30,000 in order to continue its research.

Jacqui Stringer, clinical leader of complementary therapies at Christie Hospital in Manchester, instigated the oils research.

She said: "Our research shows a very practical application which could be of enormous benefit to the NHS and its patients.

"The reason essential oils are so effective is because they are made up of a complex mixture of chemical compounds which the MRSA and other superbug bacteria finds difficult to resist."

The Department of Health evaluates products which are claimed to prevent or treat HAIs before it permits them to be used across the NHS.
